Plastic Bags Will Be Charged. Nylon Bags will be charged as of 2019

In 2019, nylon bags will be charged in order to limit the use of plastic bags and increase the recycling rate. To increase recycling and reuse habits, plastic bags will be charged. Previously, we heard news that the use of plastic bags would be prohibited, but in time, it turned out that the usage habits are planned to be restricted and recycling shall be encouraged by the pricing regulations as in Europe, rather than the prohibition. As of 2019, the nylon bags, which have been available free of charge at the cash points until now, shall be offered to the consumer against a fee. It has been stated that this practice will try to encourage the re-use habits of the consumer. Plastic bags, exceeding 50 million pieces per day, when not degraded properly, cannot be included in the recycling process and cause waste of resources. With this regulations, this usage is being planned to be regulated correctly. A valuable product like plastic, which has an important place in our lives, must be included in the process of recycling. This process will ensure the correct use of resources and minimize damage to the environment.

After the ban on nylon bags have been put into agenda, retailers and plastic manufacturers started to offer different ideas. As the process progressed, it became clear that the practice would be in the form of compensation rather than prohibition. As of 2019, it is foreseen that the plastic bags will be charged to ensure a change in the usage habits. In this regard, the authorities declare that they shall increase the use of cloth bags through giving information using public spots to reduce unnecessary use. In our daily life, we take more plastic bags after shopping in the grocery stores and use the spare ones as a garbage bag. However, this habit leads to the loss of the recycling process over time.

What Do We Gain by Reducing the Use of Plastic Bags and Using a Recyclable Cloth Bag?

Re-use of recyclable products can greatly reduce the amount of energy and the natural resources consumed and costs incurred for new generation. The mixing of wastes such as glass, metal and plastic into the nature brings about serious damages to the soil, not only pollutes the soil, but also causes negative effects such as air pollution and water pollution. Statistically, the advantages of recycling are as follows; When 1 ton glass waste is recycled, we save 100 liters of oil; to recycle only half of the world's paper production, enables the preservation of 8 million hectares of forest each year; to recover 1 ton of cardboard-paper waste, prevents the cut down of 17 trees; and recovering 1 ton of tire waste means 95% energy savings.
