This year, record number of attendance was achieved in the 4th edition of the Packaging Moon & Stars Contest organized by the Association of Packaging Manufacturers (ASD). 203 packages in 12 different categories were evaluated.
ASD, through the Packaging Moon & Stars Contest, aims to contribute to the added value and competitive power of the Turkish companies, in their products they put on the market, their original and accurate packaging applications. The packaging, which is considered to be the garment of the product, plays a big role in the market share acquisition of commercial goods in both domestic and foreign markets.
The competence of the Packaging Moon & Stars Contest, where the Turkish companies have participated with their products they put on the market domestically and abroad, is accredited and recognized by WPO-World Packaging Organization. In accordance with the competition rule, the packaging that is entitled for "Competency 2013" award, if they wish, will have the right to participate in international competitions including the WorldStar Competition organized by WPO.
The members of the Selection Committee (Professional Jury), who were gathered at ASD on 23-24 May 2013, have graded every application after evaluating all packages in accordance with the following evaluation criteria given in the competition specifications:
- Competence and success in preserving and protecting the product contained
- Whether the shape of the packaging is new, original, different and interesting
- Adequacy and ease of use of the packaging in terms of filling, emptying, opening and re-closing
- Appropriate and adequate marking and information on the packaging
- The charm of the sales appearance
- Graphic design
- Production quality
- Materials used and cost economics
- Environmental awareness, reuse in the context of sustainability, recycling
- Success in recycling opportunities
- Original structural feature
- Being suitable for successful display at final sales points
In the first phase of the competition, 96 packages were deemed worthy for "Competency 2013 award. Therefore, all the packages that were awarded for "Competency 2013" were entitled to participate in international competitions including the WorldStar Competition organized by WPO.
In the second phase, the assessment was conducted among all "Competence 2013" award winning packaging and Gold, Silver and Bronze awards of each category were determined. The Gold, Silver and Bronze awards of the categories will be announced at the Award Ceremony as per the specification. The Award Ceremony will be held on September 2, 2013 at the Four Seasons Hotel Bosphorus Istanbul.
Among the Gold Awards given within the scope of the Packaging Moon & Stars Contest, an additional Gold Packaging Award were given in cooperation with TSE. The Selection Committee has also determined 3 Golden Packaging Award winners among the Gold Award winners regarding the appropriate competition categories.
